Pandemic-EBT Application
The Families First Coronavirus Response Act includes a benefit called Pandemic-EBT (P-EBT) for children up to age 21 who received free or reduced-price school meals in the 2019-2020 school year but their school is now closed. Your child must attend school in Texas to be eligible.
Who needs to apply for P-EBT?
- If your family got SNAP benefits for the month of March this year and you have children between the ages of 5 and 18, YOU DO NOT NEED TO APPLY.
- Everyone else must apply to get P-EBT benefits. (This includes if you applied for SNAP benefits in April or May.)
- Complete the entire application to see if your child is eligible. Answering all questions will help us process your application more quickly.
- Applications will be processed in the order they are received. The P-EBT amount for each eligible child is up to $285.00.
- If your household currently receives SNAP and you are eligible for P-EBT benefits, they will be put on your current Lone Star Card. If you are not currently receiving SNAP, we will mail you a new card with P-EBT benefits.
- A child is eligible for only one P-EBT benefit, even if they are a part of multiple households. P-EBT benefits are nontransferable.

Dear Southwest Schools Community:
On behalf of the district, I hope you and your family are safe and well. This past month has been difficult to say the least, but we are so proud to serve you, and extremely grateful for all that you have done and continue to do for our students. In spite of COVID-19, you continue to put the well-being and education of our students first, and for that, I say THANK YOU.
This afternoon Governor Abbott extended campus closure through the end of this school year. This decision is in alignment with the priorities of Southwest Schools (SWS). The safety and health of our students and staff is our highest priority. Due to safety concerns and the ongoing need for social distancing, our campuses will remain closed for the remainder of this school year. The need for safety through social distancing warrants that SWS continues to keep campuses closed during this pandemic.
While our school campuses will be closed, learning is not closed and is ongoing! I want to emphasize that school is not over for the year. SWS, including teachers, administrators, parents, and other student support systems, will strengthen our efforts to create and implement learning outside of the school campus. Our students will continue with their home learning. We will continue to do our best to provide our students and families with optimal learning as we develop and implement this new district-wide system.
During this time, communication between our educators, students, and parents becomes ever more crucial. To that end, it is very important that our school administrators have the correct contact information for students and families. If you have not received information directly from your school, please call your school’s main office and provide your current contact information. By this time, every student/family should have received multiple communications from both their campus and SWS district office.
We know that many families are experiencing challenges and hardships during this unprecedented time. Every day seems to bring changes, and these changes can be stressful for us all. Please remember this unwavering fact: we are in this together for as long as it takes. We care deeply about the well-being of each and every student.
For our high school seniors and their families, you have our commitment that the closure will not impact your ability to graduate as long as you work with your administration and teachers to complete the assignments that are being sent to you. We are working to plan a graduation ceremony later this year. We understand that this will be different from what was expected. We will work together to make sure that you have a memorable graduation experience. #SWSclassof2020
This experience is testing all of us. It also serves as a strong reminder that we are a resilient community. There is no place else that I would rather be than working to serve our students, staff, and families.

School Suspended Through May 1st
IMPORTANT UPDATE
Southwest Schools Community,
This afternoon, the Governor of Texas announced Texas schools must remain closed until Friday, May 1st. Southwest Schools will continue the suspension of normal operations through Friday, May 1st . As of now, our earliest return date will be Monday, May 4th. However, the district will continue to mobilize efforts to provide students with remote instruction and digital learning experiences during this school closure. This is a fluid situation and the school district leadership team will reevaluate the closure during the week of April 27th. We will continue to keep you informed via our district website, call outs and social media.
Over the past couple of weeks, Southwest Schools’ teachers have been delivering remote instruction through several platforms. The plan is to continue to offer these learning opportunities for our students. We ask for your patience and understanding as our team continues to navigate the many details of this unprecedented situation. If you have any questions or concerns regarding online learning, please reach out to your child’s teacher.
The health and well-being of Southwest Schools students, staff and our community remains our top priority. We miss our students, families and staff, and we look forward to returning to normal operations.

Instructional Plan for School Closure
While the district is closed in an effort to protect our community from the spread of COVID-19, we expect our students to continue learning at home with the remote support of our teacher and support personnel.
Students will receive direct communication and instruction from their teachers through a virtual learning platform and/or teacher developed packets. Each campus in the district will communicate with families the virtual platform that will be utilized campus wide. Through the platform parents/students can find support videos, documents and resources. The school’s virtual platform and other instructional software programs can be accessed online through Classlink.
Teachers will communicate directly with families and students with specific information regarding their classes and required lessons for students. Resources will be updated frequently for families to access additional activities to support the lessons assigned by their teachers. It is important for parents and caregivers to monitor this work so that learning is on-going as we wait to re-open schools.
