Southwest Public Schools Names Dr. Michael Love Lone Finalist for Superintendent
HOUSTON, Texas — The Southwest Public Schools Board of Directors named Dr. Michael Love as the Lone Finalist for superintendent during its September 4, 2026, meeting.
In accordance with Texas law, the Board must now observe a 21-day waiting period before voting to formally hire Dr. Love as the new superintendent of Southwest Public Schools. Dr. Love is slated to replace Interim Superintendent Dr. Keri Fovargue.
The Board followed a comprehensive process in determining the finalist. In July, the Board hired the Texas Association of School Boards (TASB) Executive Search Services to direct the superintendent search. TASB consultants met with staff and community groups on August 12, 2026, to discuss the leadership qualities desired in the district’s next superintendent.
The leadership profile developed from those meetings served as the framework used by the Board and TASB consultants in evaluating applicants for the position.
The Board selected six applicants for initial interviews and later voted not to interview additional candidates and to name a Lone Finalist.
The Board is scheduled to vote to offer a contract to Dr. Love following the required 21-day waiting period.
Dr. Love previously served Southwest Public Schools as Chief of Operations, Strategy and Innovation Officer and currently serves as Chief of Innovation & Student Support Services for Spring ISD.
