Southwest Public Schools rolled out the red carpet for teachers, leaders, and support staff at the first annual Academy Awards - a welcome back day of celebration and recognition fit for Hollywood's finest!  Not only did they gather to kick off the 2023 – 2024 school year, but they also honored the real stars of education, each SWPS’ educator who lights up the lives of students every day. Just like at the Academy Awards, they took a moment to shine brightly, and they were excited to walk the red carpet!

Superintendent Adams shared, “We have educators who have grown our students with double digit gains and those that show up every single day! For the first time ever, Southwest Public Schools prepared a higher percentage of students than the state in the College, Career and Military Readiness Accountability Standard! We have outperformed the state in Algebra I for two consecutive years! And this year, I am proud to announce we have outperformed the state in 5th grade mathematics!”

SWPS also recognized leaders, teachers and support staff for their outstanding accomplishments including Teacher of the Year, Support Staff of the Year, Assistant Principal of the Year, Principal of the Year, Top Growth, Perfect Attendance, Years of Service, and much more! Anne Leal, Executive Director Multilingual, won this year’s Superintendent’s Excellence in Leadership Award! Dr. Adams received the 2023 Game Changer award presented by Ms. Paula Harris, SVP, Community Affairs & Astros Foundation Executive Director. The keynote was presented by none other than Ron Clark, a charismatic and innovative educator who has made a significant impact on the field of education.

As the curtains drew to a close on this spectacular afternoon, SWPS faculty and staff found themselves filled with gratitude for the remarkable educators in attendance!
