In 37 years in the field of education, Pamela Sailors has held many and varied positions. She has been the director of an early childhood center, an elementary teacher, an instructional supervisor, a Reading Department program manager, and both an elementary assistant principal and principal – mostly in the Houston Independent School District. Pam also served as an adjunct professor at St. Thomas University.  In 2005 she accepted a new challenge, becoming the Superintendent of Schools for the nonprofit Neighborhood Centers’ Choices in Education division.  This included oversight of a charter district and a large Head Start program.  In six years she helped grow the Charter School District from one to three elementary schools, two of which achieved Exemplary status. She also fostered a meaningful partnership with Teach for America to bring highly qualified, motivated young educators to work with the district’s needy students.  Pam came to Southwest Schools in 2012.  After a short stint in the Central Office, she missed the constant stimulation of working with students and teachers and jumped at the opportunity to become principal at the Bissonnet Elementary Campus.  In a career working almost exclusively with low income students, Pamela Sailors has come to recognize and appreciate the life challenges that face many students.  But she also understands that the path out of poverty and low achievement is a rigorous academic program and high expectations for both the students and their families.
